LG, somewhat following HTC’s lead, has decided that they will be putting the brakes on tablet development for the time being. Given that devices such as the G-Slate and Optimus Pad LTE have failed to gain much attention, LG believes they would be better served investing in smartphones. We couldn’t agree with their decision more as the current market is full of players and there’s yet to be one proven way to grab share.
Perhaps the time to reconsider tablets will be once things level off a bit and the price wars yield a few solid winners. Maybe the Google Nexus 7 tablet can jump start things at the $200 price range and show consumers that there’s more for your tablet money than a Kindle Fire. We’ve always liked LG’s higher-end smartphone designs and appreciate how they push hardware boundaries so we’re hoping to see an eventual return to tablets.
